Sketches

For my pitcher, I was inspired by the artist Rhian Malin. She is from Stratford, England and received a BA in Three Dimensional Design from Camberwell College of Arts in London.

Her work employs line and color with beautiful blue geometric designs juxtaposed against white porcelain.  Malin also uses texture in her pieces by carving into them to create a design.

The geometric designs, bright blue colors, and funky textures drew me into Malin's work. It looks like Malin uses a ribbon tool to achieve texture. I plan on using a ribbon tool to carve a similar design into my pitcher.

This is my finished pitcher! I think it turned out pretty well. The ridges aren't as straight and perfect as I'd hoped they'd be, but I still like the look of them. The shape of the pitcher is also a little lumpy and bumpy, but again, it doesn't bother me that much. Like my nesting bowls, I think my pitcher has an organic look to it. I think the handle looks how I wanted it to. I also like the glaze I chose. While I had some difficulty forming the pitcher and creating the texture, I am happy with the end result.
